TCA Stallion Season Auction Set For January

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thoroughbred Charities of America announced today that the planning and preparations for the 29th annual Stallion Season Auction and Celebration are underway. The auction, held Wednesday, January 2 – Sunday, January 6, 2019, is the largest annual fundraiser for the nonprofit organization.

“Our annual auction is our most important event on the calendar as it raises the majority of the funds that we distribute to approved charities each year,” said Erin Crady, executive director of TCA. “There are a variety of ways to support the auction including the donation of stallion seasons, the donation of non-season items for the silent auction, sponsorships, program advertising, and ticket purchases. Our grants are only possible because of the generosity of our donors.”

The fundraiser opens with an online auction beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2 and continues through 3 p.m. EST on Friday, January 4. Bidding by telephone will be available on Friday, January 4, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. EST. Interested bidders may register to bid on Starquine by visiting starquine.com or tca.org. The majority of seasons will sell during the online auction however approximately 8 seasons will be sold in the live Select Season Auction & Celebration on Sunday, January 6 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington, Ky.  Bidders or their authorized agents may bid on the select seasons by attending the live auction in-person or they may bid on the select seasons during the online phase with the highest bidders continuing on to bid by phone during the live auction.  Non-season items including experiences, services, and memorabilia will also be offered and will be available for online bidding.

LNJ Foxwoods, the New York-based racing stable of Larry, Nanci and Jaime Roth, has signed on as the top sponsor of the Stallion Season Auction for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to LNJ Foxwoods, other sponsors are: Rosenberg Thoroughbred Consulting, Limestone Bank, Bourbon Lane Stable, HorseCo, Fasig-Tipton, Keeneland, BloodHorse, Paulick Report, L.V. Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) was formed in 1990 to raise and distribute funds to charities in the Thoroughbred industry that provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting qualified repurposing and retirement organizations and by helping the people who care for them. In 2018, TCA granted nearly $700,000 to 69 charities working within Thoroughbred retraining, rehoming and retirement; backstretch and farm worker services, research and equine-assisted therapy. During the last nearly three decades, TCA has granted over $23 million to more than 200 charities that successfully meet the criteria set forth in its annual grant application. TCA also administers the Horses First Fund, founded by LNJ Foxwoods in 2016, to assist Thoroughbreds in need of emergency aid. TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).
