A native of Memphis, Tenn. and a graduate of the University of Virginia, Davant went to the racetrack grooming horses for trainer Dennis Ebert. This was followed by a stint at Dearborn Farm in Midway, Ky. and a season in New Zealand at Cambridge Stud.

After a few years in the “real world” Davant came back to the Thoroughbred business as the general manager of Vinery, then the largest stallion station in Kentucky as well as one of the leading consignors in the country. Following this he worked as an independent bloodstock and insurance agent before serving as the Director of Bloodstock Services for Darby Dan Farm. In April 2006, Davant left Darby Dan to start Davant Latham Bloodstock & Insurance, a full-service bloodstock and insurance agency in Midway, Ky.

In January 2007, Davant received an Honorable Mention from the Eclipse Media Awards for Crystal Clear, an essay on the life of the brilliant and charismatic sprint champion Lost in the Fog that was published in The Blood-Horse.

Davant also manages partnerships for racing, breeding and pinhooking. At the 2017 Saratoga yearling sale, an Orb colt selected by Davant for a pinhooking partnership topped the sale, selling for $1,000,000.

Davant is a past president and director of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers Club, a past president and director of the High Hope Steeplechase, and a past director of the American Heart Association of Central Kentucky. Davant lives on a small farm outside of Midway, Ky. with his wife, 23-year-old daughter, 14-year-old son and their menagerie of dogs, chickens, and horses.
