TCA to Honor LNJ Foxwoods and TAKE2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thoroughbred Charities of America will honor LNJ Foxwoods with the Allaire du Pont Leadership Award and the Take2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program with the Ellen and Herb Moelis Industry Service Award at the 29th Annual Stallion Season Auction & Celebration on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington, Ky.

“Our board has selected two outstanding award recipients,” said Erin Crady executive director of TCA. “LNJ Foxwoods has made a significant impact in the lives of numerous horses and their caretakers, not only through the establishment of the Horses First Fund, but also through their support of TCA’s annual grantmaking as well as their many other philanthropic endeavors. LNJ’s commitment to always put the horse first is the backbone of their operation and aligns with the philosophy of TCA co-founder and namesake of the Leadership Award, Allaire du Pont. The TAKE2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program has worked tirelessly to incentivize sport horse owners to consider a Thoroughbred as their next mount. The program’s broad reach at hundreds of top-rated Hunter Jumper shows across the country has contributed to the overall increase in value of retiring racers while providing more options for second career pathways.”

The Allaire du Pont Leadership Award is presented annually to an organization or individual whose philanthropic endeavors are consistent with TCA’s mission. Past award winners include Dan Rosenberg, Barbara Banke, Bourbon Lane Stable, Graham and Anita Motion, Frank Stronach, Fasig-Tipton, Darley, Todd Pletcher, and Roy and Gretchen Jackson.

LNJ Foxwoods is the racing stable of Larry, Nanci, and Jaime Roth, a parents and daughter trio that entered the racing industry in 2012. Since that time the stable has found great success with runners including Nickname, Constellation, Dreamologist, Golden Valentine, Dogtag, Anonymity, and more.

The Ellen and Herb Moelis Industry Service Award is presented annually to an organization that works to uphold TCA’s mission. Past award winners include Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare, Backstretch Employee Service Team (B.E.S.T.), The Jockey Club’s Thoroughbred Incentive Program, CANTER USA, Retired Racehorse Project, Belmont Child Care Association, and Old Friends.

2018 TCA grant recipient, the TAKE2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program, rewards riders who compete on Thoroughbreds with awards and prize money in restricted classes and divisions at horse shows across the U.S. TAKE2 classes are offered at more than 350 shows in 23 states.

Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) was formed in 1990 to raise and distribute funds to charities in the Thoroughbred industry that provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting qualified repurposing and retirement organizations and by helping the people who care for them. In 2018, TCA granted nearly $700,000 to 69 charities working within Thoroughbred retraining, rehoming and retirement; backstretch and farm worker services, research and equine-assisted therapy. During the last over quarter of a century, TCA has granted over $23 million to more than 200 charities that successfully meet the criteria set forth in its annual grant application. TCA also administers the Horses First Fund, founded by LNJ Foxwoods in 2016, to assist Thoroughbreds in need of emergency aid. TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).
