Lonny Powell is the CEO of the Florida Breeders’ and Owners’ Association where his responsibilities include overseeing the operations of the FTBOA and its related entities, including Florida Equine Communications and Florida Thoroughbred Charities. Florida traditionally ranks second in the nation in foal crop and mares bred.
A lifelong member of the Thoroughbred industry and long-time executive, Powell also oversees the political, regulatory, legal, public relations and promotional activities of the Association. Some of his past positions of particular note include serving as past director of the UA RaceTrack Industry Program, President & CEO of Santa Anita Park, Turf Paradise Race Course, and Longacres Racetrack, President & CEO of Racing Commissioners International and Executive VP/COO for Magna Entertainment.
A graduate of the UA RaceTrack Industry Program, Powell consistently remains committed to giving back to his industry and community as represented by his being appointed or elected in recent years as Florida Horse Park Immediate Past Chair, Secretary and Director for the Florida Society of Association Executives, Board Member of the Marion County/City of Ocala Chamber & Economic Partnership, Equine Technical Advisor to the Florida Farm Bureau as well as the State of Florida Animal Industry Technical Council.
