LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 27th annual Thoroughbred Charities of America Stallion Season Auction began today at 9 a.m. and offers a wide variety of seasons, unique experiences, halters and other auction items. The six-day fundraiser opens with an online auction and culminates with a Celebration featuring select seasons on Saturday, January 7 at 6:30 p.m. EST at the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington, Ky.
The majority of TCA’s seasons will be sold during the online auction. Online bidding continues through Friday, January 6 at 5 p.m. EST. Telephone bids will be accepted on Friday, January 6 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. EST. More than 200 seasons representing stallions in 13 states are available in the auction. Eight select seasons and all non-season items will be sold at the Celebration, a live auction event on Saturday, January 7. Bidders or their authorized agents may bid on the select seasons by attending the live auction in-person or they may bid on select seasons during the online phase with the highest bidders earning the right to bid by phone during the live auction. For bidders that cannot attend the live auction but are interested in non-season items, absentee bidding is available.

All seasons will be sold on a no guarantee basis unless otherwise noted.
In addition to the seasons, the live auction will feature non-season lots such as a John Deere riding mower, equine air transportation from H.E. Tex Sutton, a two-year lease on a 2017 Dodge Ram Crew Cab or 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, an antique Louis Vuitton tack trunk, a four-day hunt at Whitetail Heaven Outfitters, shadowboxed halters worn by Arrogate, Songbird, Runhappy, and much more. A silent auction will also be offered. All non-season items will also be available for bidding during the online auction with absentee bidding available at the live auction event. The Celebration will be hosted by Jill Byrne featuring music by Ben Lacy and Corey Cross. Barbara Banke and Backstretch Employee Service Team will be honored with the annual Allaire du Pont Leadership and Ellen and Herb Moelis Industry Service awards.

In 2016, TCA granted over $535,000 to more than 71 charities working within Thoroughbred retraining, rehoming and retirement; backstretch and farm worker services, research and equine-assisted therapy. Over the last quarter of a century, TCA has granted more than $21 million to more than 200 charities that successfully meet the criteria set forth in its annual grant application.
TCA’s mission is to provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting qualified repurposing and retirement organizations and by helping the people who care for them. From 2000-2015, more than 95% of TCA’s expenditures were allocated to program services including direct grants. TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).
