Grantee Spotlight: TAKE2

As a 2025 grant recipient of Thoroughbred Charities of America, TAKE2 Thoroughbred Hunter & Jumper Program continues to create meaningful pathways for retired racehorses.

This week, industry stakeholders pledged $35,000 in prize money to support a new series of TAKE2 Thoroughbred Classics at the Kentucky Horse Park.

This initiative was championed by TCA Board Member Carrie Brogden, whose leadership was instrumental in bringing it to fruition.

The TAKE2 Thoroughbred Classics are dedicated hunter and jumper classes designed specifically for Thoroughbreds, offering increased financial incentives while showcasing the breed’s athleticism, versatility, and trainability in sport horse competition.

Founded to promote and reward the use of Thoroughbreds in the hunter and jumper disciplines, TAKE2 works to bridge the gap between racing and sport. Through high-point awards, year-end championships, educational outreach, and partnerships with horse shows, the program elevates the profile of off-track Thoroughbreds and provides structured opportunities for riders at multiple levels.

By increasing prize money and visibility through the new Classics series, TAKE2 strengthens the economic case for Thoroughbreds in second careers. Greater incentives encourage participation. Greater participation builds demand. Demand supports long-term aftercare sustainability.

When industry collaboration leads to expanded opportunity, the entire aftercare ecosystem benefits, from accredited organizations to trainers, riders, owners, and most importantly, the horses themselves.
