Thoroughbred Charities of America is proud to feature the Illinois Equine Humane Center, a longtime partner and a 2025 TCA grant recipient. Since 2008, ILEHC has worked to improve the welfare of horses across Illinois through hands-on rescue, thoughtful rehabilitation, and responsible placement.
A Mission Built on Care and Responsibility
ILEHC was founded to provide a safe haven for at-risk horses. They take in horses facing neglect or abandonment, give them the medical care and downtime they need, and help them transition into new careers and permanent homes. Many of the horses they work with are retired Thoroughbreds, and ILEHC gives each one the time and attention required to reset, retrain, and move forward.
Education and advocacy also play a major role in their mission. ILEHC supports owners with resources, promotes responsible horse care, and works to strengthen equine welfare efforts throughout the state.
A Promise That Lasts a Lifetime
One of the qualities that sets ILEHC apart is their commitment to every horse they place. If an adopter’s situation ever changes, the horse has a guaranteed safe place to return. That kind of long-term safety net protects horses well into the future and reflects the heart of their program.
A Partnership We Are Proud to Support
TCA has supported the Illinois Equine Humane Center for many years, and we value the care and consistency they bring to their work. As a 2025 grant recipient, they will continue rescuing horses, expanding their adoption program, and helping more Thoroughbreds find their next chapter.
We are grateful for their ongoing partnership and the impact they continue to have on supporting our mission.
